Where MyFitnessPal is better
- The food database. MyFitnessPal's searchable database is enormous, including restaurant chains and branded products. NutriPixel doesn't have a searchable database; it estimates from your photo or description, or uses the label for barcode scans.
- iPhone and web. MyFitnessPal runs on iPhone, Android and the web. NutriPixel is Android-only for now.
- Maturity. MyFitnessPal has years of features, recipes, community and integrations. NutriPixel is new.
- Your history. If you've logged in MyFitnessPal for years, that history stays there. NutriPixel can't import it.
Where NutriPixel is different
- Photo-first logging on the free plan. Snap a meal and get each food with its portion and macros, then adjust it before logging. See the AI calorie counter.
- Free voice logging. Tap the mic and say what you ate. MyFitnessPal's Voice Log is a Premium feature; on NutriPixel it's free and unlimited.
- Unlimited free barcode scans, with a simple everyday / sometimes / treat rating. See the barcode scanner.
- Indian home food: rotis counted by the piece, dal and rice by the bowl. See the Indian food calorie counter.
- Calories eaten vs. burned using Health Connect, or an estimate if you don't connect. See the calorie deficit tracker.
- No ads on any plan, and meal photos aren't stored by NutriPixel.
Who should switch, and who shouldn't
NutriPixel is likely a better fit if you're on MyFitnessPal's free plan and miss the barcode scanner, you'd rather photograph a meal than search for it, you eat a lot of home-cooked Indian food, or you want calories in and out without paying.
Stay with MyFitnessPal if you rely on its database for exact branded and restaurant entries, you use an iPhone or the web app, or you're already paying for Premium and happy with it.
Switching from MyFitnessPal
There's nothing to migrate: set up NutriPixel with your age, height, weight, activity level and goal, and it calculates your calorie and macro targets. Log your next meal with a photo. If you had custom targets in MyFitnessPal, you can set the same numbers in NutriPixel. Your MyFitnessPal history isn't imported, so keep your old account if you want to look back at it.
