How NutriPixel works

How NutriPixel turns a photo into your day's numbers

Snap, check, log. Then NutriPixel puts the meal in context: your calorie and macro targets, what you burned, your fasting window and your trend over the week.

1. Set up your targets

When you first open NutriPixel, you enter your age, height, weight, sex, activity level and goal: lose weight, maintain, build muscle or eat healthier. NutriPixel works out what you burn on a typical day using the Mifflin–St Jeor equation, sets a calorie target from it, and splits that into protein, carb and fat targets. You can change any of them later. See the macro tracker for how the split works.

2. Log a meal

There are five ways in, and you can mix them in a single day:

  • Photo. Take a picture of your plate or pick one from your gallery. The AI lists each food with its portion, calories and macros. See the AI calorie counter.
  • Voice. Tap the mic and say what you ate. Your phone's own speech recognition turns it into text, and NutriPixel breaks it into foods. NutriPixel never receives the audio.
  • Text. Type what you ate in plain words, like two rotis, dal and a bowl of curd.
  • Barcode. Scan a packaged food to use its label values, with a simple health rating. See the barcode scanner.
  • Saved foods and recipes. Log your regulars again in one tap.

3. Check before you save

Every estimate comes back as an editable list. Change a quantity, remove something that isn't there, and the totals update as you go. This is the step that makes photo logging reliable: the AI does the tedious part, and you correct what a photo can't show, like how much oil went in.

4. See what it means for your day

  • Your ring and macro bars fill up against your targets.
  • A tip on the meal, for example a protein side if it was light on protein, that you can add with one tap.
  • Calories eaten vs. burned. NutriPixel adds up resting energy, digestion and activity, using Health Connect data if you connect it. See the calorie deficit tracker and Health Connect.
  • Your fast, if you follow an intermittent fasting plan, timed from your meals.

5. Keep going

Streaks and badges reward logging on consecutive days. Gentle meal reminders help on busy days. Weight, water and progress photos sit alongside your meals so you can see your week, not just today.

Where your data goes

  • Voice is turned into text by your phone's speech service. NutriPixel only gets the text, never the audio.
  • Meal photos are sent for analysis and aren't stored by NutriPixel. The photo stays on your phone.
  • Your meal log is stored on your phone first. Pro adds an optional cloud backup so you can restore it on a new phone.
  • Health Connect data is read-only and stays on your phone.
  • No ads, on any plan.

Free and Pro

The free plan includes 3 AI photo scans a day (up to 8 a week), unlimited voice and typed entries and barcode scans, calories in vs. out, fasting and your last 30 days of history. Pro removes the scan limit, keeps your full history, backs up your meal log and adds activity trends and insights. See pricing.

Questions

How long does it take to log a meal?

Usually a few seconds: take the photo, check the list, tap log.

What if the AI gets a food wrong?

Change the portion or remove it before logging. The totals update as you edit.

Does NutriPixel work offline?

Your log, targets and history work offline because they're stored on your phone. Photo, voice, text and barcode lookups need an internet connection.

Can I move my data to a new phone?

With Pro, your meal log is backed up to the cloud and can be restored on a new phone.
